THE STORY OF PICKLEBALL

Pickleball: 2021 marks the 56th anniversary of pickleball, invented on Bainbrige Island, a short ferry ride from Seattle, by three enterprising dads – Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum. Their children where board with their usual summertime activities. According to Joel Pritchard’s wife Joan, she started calling the game pickleball because “the combination of different sports reminded her of the pickle boat in crew where oarsmen were chosen from the leftovers of other boats”.

Nationally, over 5 million people play pickleball – growing 650% in the last 5 years.

National programs include: USA Pickleball Association, USAPA Ambassadors both with nationally recognized ranks and ratings in the US Hall of Fame.

Benjamin Johns is the #1 player in the world. His income last year was over 2MM.

There are over 300 certified referees.

Today, pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the “world”.

Pickles is the Premier Pickleball facility in New England providing 6 Climate Controlled Indoor Tournament Sized Courts, 2 Indoor Dinking Practice Courts, 3 Outdoor Courts, a Pickles Kitchen with pre-packaged food items, a beer & wine Café with an assortment of choices, a Players Lounge with mezzanine viewing area and a small Pickles Retail Shop carrying the latest Pickleball “gear”.

OUR STORY

Pickles began by two women with a passion for and, almost and addiction to, the sport of Pickleball. After participating in the sport and observing the huge following it has, they identified the need for additional local outdoor courts as well as an even bigger need and demand for indoor courts dedicated exclusively to the sport of Pickleball. To take it a step further, they wanted to create a place that was much more than just a facility to play Pickleball.
